Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company in collaboration with The Ahn Trio premieres its newest multi-cultural production, A Quest for Freedom, featuring live music and dance. This 12-section work is choreographed by artistic director Nai-Ni Chen, recipient of 15 awards from the National Endowment for the Arts. A Quest explores Chen’s stories of leaving one’s country (Taiwan) and emigrating to a the US in search of freedom. It highlights the current societal, historical, and international debate regarding immigration.
The Ahn Trio, three Korean sisters, Juilliard trained have released six albums and are recognized for bringing the 21st century and youthfulness to chamber music. The work is set to music by David Bowie, Ludovico Einaudi, Nuvole Bianch, Antônio Carolos Jobim, Pat Metheny, Zoe Keating, Chiel Meijering, and Kenji Bunch. The program also features three musical selections by The Ahn Trio composed by Michael Nyman, Kenji Bunch and David Balakrishnan.
